Meeting Minutes April 2006
Meeting opened at 7:30 by Steve N9UDO, President.

Minutes of the March meeting were waived, as there was not a quorum present at that meeting.

Treasurers report:
We have $4,125.79 in the checking account. No outstanding bills.

Old Business:
It was reminded that as of the last meeting, the new By-Laws are in effect. This includes the new wording of them, as can be found on the web site.

Steve, N9UDO brought up that getting our 501(c)(3) is going to be a priority this year. Once we have that, we can solicit for funds from corporations. Rick, N9ROY suggested using the same place that he is using for ARES/RACES. N9UDO told him to look into it and report back next meeting.

The annual swapfest brought up some lively discussion. We are still unsure in which building we are going to have it. The rent on the big building keeps going up, and is pricing it out of our reach. We are continuing to keep checking on this.

It was noted that we now have 40 official members to the club.

New Business:
May 20, and 21, is going to be Circus Heritage Days for the Boy Scouts at the fairgrounds in Baraboo. We have been invited back this year to help with demonstrating ham radio. This will be the 20th anniversary of Circus Heritage Days. The details will be made known at the next meeting.

N9ROY made mention he will need 4 members to help Sauk County ARES/RACES with a project on Monday April 10, at the Weston High School. He was asked by Sauk County Emergency Management to help provide communications for their annual DARE program mock accident scene. If you can help, just let him know.

Field Day will be held on June 24 and 25th this year. Columbia County ARES will NOT be there this year as they are trying a different approach in their county. So we will need more operators this year from the club. Set up will be Saturday morning at 10:00AM. Camping will be available starting Friday night. Come out and have an enjoyable time with your club. Field Day will be located at our usual location at Owen Park in Columbia County. Visit the club's web site for more information. http://yellowthunder.org

The next meeting of the Yellow Thunder Amateur Radio Club will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd. We will be starting at 6:15PM with a Fox Hunt. So get your direction-finding equipment out and get set for some fun. Rick, N9ROY will be hiding the fox and he promises to be VERRRRRY tricky. So come out and prove him wrong!!

Don, K9JYX made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and was seconded by Tom, N9PQJ. Motion passed. Meting adjourned at 8:03PM. Buck nite drawing winner was N9KXX and he won $4.00. Bill donated the money BACK to the club for the Field Day refreshment fund. Next meeting the 'buck-night drawing' will be back to $1.00.

After the meeting, we enjoyed a very informative presentation on Software Defined Radios, as presented by Duane, N9DG. He had an excellent Power Point presentation explaining the theory and software needed to use it. He also had a couple of pieces of hardware to use. Many questions were asked, and several sample cds were handed out to prospective users. Thanks for the great demo Duane.
